About this Sacred Grove

Aiyalur Aiyanar Sacred Grove, covering 2.1 ha, is located at Aiyalur village, Perambalur District, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Lord Aiyanar, a guardian deity, puja is performed regularly and annual festivals attract local devotees seeking protection and prosperity. The grove is maintained by the local community with strict traditional taboos prohibiting tree felling, hunting, removal of produce and entry during certain times. Belief that harming the grove invites the wrath of Aiyanar ensures its protection. This reverence has preserved dry deciduous vegetation, native trees, and associated biodiversity, making it an important ecological and cultural heritage site.
