About this Sacred Grove
Spread over 1.5 hectares at Alavaimalai in Athanur Pudhur, Namakkal district, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Kongana Siddhar, one of the 18 revered Siddhas. Believed to have performed tapas inside the hill cave and attained jeeva samadhi here, the Siddhar is worshipped as guardian healer who cures chronic diseases, black magic, childlessness and mental distress. Devotees believe the herbs and spring water here have miraculous healing powers blessed by Siddhar. The dense grove preserves rare medicinal plants, native trees and wildlife as sacred, never to be cut. Full moon poojas, annadanam and herbal collection rituals keep Siddha tradition and biodiversity conservation alive in Kongu hills.
