About this Sacred Grove

Spread over 5.3 hectares in Anichampalayam, Namakkal district, this vast sacred kavu is dedicated to Lord Eswaran (Shiva) as village guardian. Believed to be swayambhu lingam manifested under ancient banyan trees, Eswaran protects farmlands, cattle, water sources and villagers from drought, evil spirits and diseases. Farmers worship for rain, good harvest, groundwater protection and family prosperity. The large dense grove preserves huge old trees, medicinal plants, birds, snakes and mammals as sacred, never felled for fear of Shiva's curse. Maha Shivaratri, Pradosham and Aadi festivals with abhishekam and pongal poojas attract villagers. It is a remarkable example of faith-based conservation preserving biodiversity and Kongu ecosystem.
