Protected by local tribal and village communities through deep faith and traditional taboos against felling trees, the grove preserves dry deciduous forest, medicinal herbs and wildlife habitat. It serves as a biodiversity refuge, water conservation site and sacred spiritual center, reflecting traditional ecological knowledge and community-based conservation within the Mudumalai and Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve landscape.
