About this Sacred Grove
Chavadi Aiyanar Sacred Grove, 2.3 ha - Spread over 2.3 hectares, the Chavadi Aiyanar sacred grove is dedicated to Lord Aiyanar, the powerful guardian deity and kaval deivam of Tamil villages. Worshipped as protector of village borders, farms, cattle and travellers from evil spirits, theft and accidents, Aiyanar is believed to patrol at night on horseback with his assistants. The dense grove preserves old native trees, medicinal plants and wildlife as sacred, never to be cut. Villagers believe protecting the kavu ensures rain, good harvest, village harmony and family welfare. Pongal, goat offerings and terracotta horse rituals during festivals maintain biodiversity through faith and ancient Tamil tradition.
