About this Sacred Grove

The Enchey Monastery sacred grove is spread in 1.62ha land. It is 4km far from Gangtok town, East Sikkim. The grove is situated in Himalayan Wet Temperate forest. The monastery was first built in the year 1840 by the 8th Chogyal of Sikkim and thus became a pilgrimage place. However, the monastery was aesthetically built in 1909 during the regime of King Sidkeong Tulku (1909-1910) at the location where Lama Druptub Karbo had his hermitage. The deities worshipped in the monastery are the Buddha, Loki Sharia and Guru
Padmasambhava. The walls of the monastery and large prayer hall are fully covered with paintings
and murals of four religious kings, the deities of the four cardinal directions as stated in the scriptures
and the entire galaxy of Mahayana Buddhist deities.
