About this Sacred Grove

G. Kallupatti Pattalamman is a revered local deity in the village of G. Kallupatti, located in Theni district, Tamil Nadu. Pattalamman is typically worshipped as a fierce Goddess known for her protective nature reflecting the community’s devotion and reverence. Pattalamman is also known as the protector of crops in G. Kallupatti. There is a legend that during a particularly harsh drought, the villagers were losing their crops and consequently their livelihoods. The villagers gathered at the temple of Pattalamman and performed special rituals, offering their prayers and sacrifices, pleading for rain. Followed by the Goddess’s instructions, they organized a grand festival, complete with traditional music, dance, and offerings and miraculously, on the final day of the festival a heavy downpour ensued, quenching the parched land. The fields flourished, and the harvest that year was abundant. The villagers attributed this miracle to Pattalamman’s blessings and have since celebrated the festival annually to express their gratitude.
