About this Sacred Grove

Kachiperumal Poraiyathal Sacred Grove is located in Kachiperumal Village, Ariyalur Taluk, Ariyalur District, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Goddess Poraiyathal, the fierce mother deity, the grove is revered as her sacred abode. Folklore says Poraiyathal appeared near the village to protect women and children from epidemics and evil eyes. After miraculous cures and safe childbirths were witnessed, villagers installed her deity under the grove. Since then, she is worshipped as the goddess of health, fertility and village welfare. Cutting trees or polluting the grove is strictly forbidden, as it is believed to invite her wrath. The grove is conserved through deep faith, pongal offerings and customary taboos.
