About this Sacred Grove

Spread over 2.4 hectares in Komarapalayam, Namakkal district, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Ponnar-Sankar, the legendary twin warrior brothers of Kongu history. Worshipped as folk heroes and kula deivam, they are believed to guard village borders, farmlands and cattle from injustice, theft and evil spirits. Local legend says they sacrificed their lives fighting for farmers' rights and became guardian gods. Villagers pray for courage, legal victory, family unity and farm prosperity. Devotees offer wooden horses, swords and pongal during festivals. The dense grove preserves ancient trees, medicinal plants and birds as sacred, never cut due to brothers' curse. Annual Maasi festival and cattle worship sustain Kongu heritage and biodiversity conservation tradition.
