About this Sacred Grove

Malayalapatti Kaliyamman Sacred Grove is located at Malayalapatti village, Veppanthattai Taluk, Perambalur District, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Goddess Kaliyamman, worship is performed regularly, especially during the Tamil month of Aadi and during village festivals for fulfillment of wishes and well-being. The grove is maintained and protected by the local community through strict traditional taboos prohibiting cutting of trees, grazing and removal of any biomass. It is believed that any violation will bring misfortune and anger of the Goddess. This deep faith has helped conserve dry deciduous vegetation, native species and serves as an important biodiversity and cultural site.
