About this Sacred Grove

Spread over 1.8 hectares in Manappally, Namakkal district, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Muneeswaran, the powerful ascetic guardian deity. Worshipped as village kaval deivam and protector of farmlands, he guards cattle, crops and travellers from evil spirits, theft, black magic and accidents. Local belief says Muneeswaran as muni roams forest border at night with trident and protects village from evil entry. Devotees pray for legal success, protection from enemies, child safety and cattle health. The dense grove preserves huge neem, tamarind and native trees, medicinal shrubs, birds and small mammals as sacred, never cut due to fear of muni's anger. Amavasya, Tuesdays and Fridays poojas with pongal, coconut, arrack and cigar offerings maintain Kongu folk faith where kaval deivam worship ensures forest and biodiversity conservation.
