About this Sacred Grove

Maanuthu Peththannasami is a revered deity in the Usilampatti region of Tamil Nadu and is known for His protective and benevolent nature. The origin of Maanuthu Peththannasami’s worship is tied to a legend that when the village faced severe troubles due to repeated invasions by bandits and persistent diseases, the villagers, struggling to maintain their livelihood, prayed for a divine intervention to end their distress. The villagers, guided by the vision of a powerful deity, Peththannasami, constructed the shrine at the designated spot, promising that his presence would bring an end to their troubles. Once the shrine was completed, the bandit attacks ceased, and the health of the villagers improved. The God’s divine presence brought stability and peace to Usilampatti. The villagers celebrated the arrival of Peththannasami with gratitude and his shrine became a focal point for worship and community gatherings.
