About this Sacred Grove

Spread over 1.4 hectares in Mel Kalingam, Namakkal district, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Bhagavathi Amman, the fierce mother goddess. Worshipped as powerful protector of village borders, she guards from evil spirits, epidemics, crop failure and black magic. Local legend says Bhagavathi appeared to save village from plague and drought, blessing fertile lands. Women pray for child birth, family welfare, mangala dosha removal and safe delivery. The dense grove preserves ancient trees, neem, medicinal herbs, birds and reptiles as sacred, never cut due to Amman's curse. Navaratri, Aadi velli and full-moon poojas with pongal, kumkum and neem leaf offerings sustain Kongu tradition where goddess worship protects biodiversity and village ecology.
