About this Sacred Grove
Spread over 7.3 hectares in Mohanur, Namakkal district, near the Cauvery river, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Bala Dandayuthapani, the child form of Lord Murugan. Worshipped as powerful guardian of children, river and farmlands, he protects from diseases, evil eye, accidents and drought. Local legend says Murugan as small boy appeared to save village from flood and plague. Parents pray for child birth, child health, education and family prosperity. The large grove preserves huge native trees, neem, medicinal plants, peacocks and birds as sacred, protected as Murugan's abode. Panguni Uthiram, Thai Poosam and Karthigai poojas with kavadi, pongal and milk abhishekam attract devotees. It blends Murugan bhakti with riverine biodiversity conservation in Kongu region.
