About this Sacred Grove

Spread over 1.8 hectares in Nariyankinaru, Namakkal district, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Sivan Kugai, the cave form of Lord Shiva. Worshipped as forest lingam and guardian of grove, he protects village, cattle and farmlands from drought, diseases, evil spirits and wild animals. Local belief says Shiva meditated in natural cave here, making rocks and springs sacred and healing. Devotees pray for rain, child boon, family peace and removal of dosham. The dense grove preserves ancient trees, medicinal herbs, bats, birds and natural spring as sacred, never disturbed due to Shiva curse. Maha Shivaratri, Pradosham and Karthigai poojas with bilva leaves, water and pongal offerings maintain Kongu Shaivite tradition where cave worship conserves forest biodiversity and water source.
