About this Sacred Grove
Spread over 1.4 hectares in Nathukulipatty, Namakkal district, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Mariamman, the goddess of rain and health. Worshipped as smallpox protector and village mother, she guards villagers from epidemics, heat diseases, drought and evil eye. Local belief says Mariamman appeared during plague to cool village with neem and water. Women pray for child health, safe pregnancy, family welfare and good monsoon. The dense grove preserves neem trees, medicinal plants, birds and sacred pond as her abode, strictly protected from cutting. Aadi Thiruvizha, summer pongal and full-moon poojas with neem leaves, turmeric water and fire walking attract devotees. It blends Mariamman folk worship with traditional ecological knowledge and biodiversity conservation in Kongu villages.
