About this Sacred Grove

Spread over 1.4 hectares in Nathukulipatty, Namakkal district, this sacred kavu is dedicated to Natchiappan, a powerful guardian deity of Kongu tradition. Worshipped as village protector and cattle guardian, he saves farmlands, villagers and travellers from evil spirits, theft, black magic and crop failure. Local belief says Natchiappan as kaval deivam patrols village border at night riding horse. Farmers pray for cattle health, good harvest, safe travel and legal protection. The dense grove preserves ancient native trees, medicinal shrubs, birds and small wildlife as sacred, never cut due to fear of guardian's anger. Amavasya, Thai and festival poojas with pongal, coconut, garlands and wooden horse offerings maintain Kongu folk tradition where kaval deivam worship ensures forest and biodiversity conservation.
