About this Sacred Grove

Othakalmandapam Vellakal Aiyanar Sacred Grove is located at Othakalmandapam, Kinathukadavu Taluk, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Lord Vellakal Aiyanar, the guardian deity of boundaries and protector of villages, the grove is revered as his sacred abode. Folklore says Aiyanar on his white horse with his two bodyguards guarded farmers, cattle and the village from thieves and evil spirits at night. After villagers experienced his divine protection and oracles, they installed his idol under the grove. Since then, he is worshipped for village security, good harvest, cattle health and safe travel. Cutting trees, hunting or entering impure inside is strictly taboo, and the grove is conserved through faith and annual Thai Pongal festivals.
