About this Sacred Grove

Thayamangalam Aiyanar Temple is one of the most famous and ancient Aiyanar temples in Tamil Nadu, located in Thayamangalam village near Ilayankudi, Sivaganga district. Lord Aiyanar is worshipped as the supreme guardian king, seated majestically with his consorts Poorani and Porkalai, along with his warriors Karuppasami, Muneeswaran and Veeran. The temple is renowned for its gigantic, colorful terracotta horse and elephant statues. Legend says Aiyanar protected Thayamangalam from invaders and epidemics, riding at night to guard the village. Devotees throng here during Maha Shivaratri festival, offering terracotta horses believing Aiyanar grants child boon, protection from accidents, legal victory, and prosperity.
