About this Sacred Grove

Vadakku Soorakudi Karuppasami and Badrakali are revered deities in the Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu, India. Their stories are steeped in the local lore and reflect their roles as the powerful protectors and guardians. Long ago, Vadakku Soorakudi village faced constant threats from marauding bands and natural calamities. The villagers, desperate for protection, prayed to Karuppasami, and the deity instructed them to perform a special sacrifice and to construct a small shrine near a hidden spring. As soon as the rituals were completed, rain began to fall, rejuvenating the land and filling the wells with fresh water. The crops flourished, and the village was saved from the brink of disaster. The villagers attributed their salvation to Karuppasami’s divine intervention and vowed to honour him with annual rituals and offerings.
