About this Sacred Grove
Waterfalls Sakthi Mariyamman Sacred Grove is located near Waterfalls Estate, Mettupalayam Taluk, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Goddess Sakthi Mariyamman, the goddess of rain and health, the grove is revered as her sacred abode. Folklore says Mariyamman protected estate workers from cholera, smallpox and other epidemics near the waterfall. After her divine presence was felt through dreams and miraculous cures, tribal people installed her stone idol under the grove near the stream. Since then, she is worshipped for good rainfall, cure from diseases and protection of children. Cutting trees, polluting water or entering impure inside is strictly taboo, and the grove is preserved through deep faith, Pongal offerings and annual Adi Thiruvizha festivals.
